Exploring Water in Art
Allow your child to explore the effect that water has on colour and paint. Try some of the following
- Painting on wet paper. How is this different to dry paper?
- Paint a pattern and leave it outside in the rain, what happens?
- Mix paint (or food colouring) with washing up liquid and blow through a straw. Place a piece of paper over the bubbles and see the patterns it leaves on the paper. Check your child knows how to blow not suck, through the straw first!)
- Watch what happens when you drop water onto coloured ink spots. Watch the colours move. What happens if you put 2 different colours close together? Felt tip pens usually work well for this, particularly on paper kitchen towel or toilet roll.
