    Beliefs and Practices: Sikhism

During the Summer Term, Year 3 pupils explore Sikhism as part of the theme Our Beautiful World, learning how religious beliefs can guide behaviour and shape the way people live their lives. Children investigate key Sikh beliefs, including the importance of sharing, fairness, kindness and equality, and consider how these values encourage people to act in caring and responsible ways within their communities.

Students explore how Sikhs show commitment to their faith through everyday practices, such as helping others and contributing to the wider community. They learn about the significance of sharing food and resources, developing an understanding of why many Sikhs believe it is important to treat everyone equally and look after the world around them.

The unit also introduces children to the ways music, art and creative expression play an important role in Sikh worship and belief. Students consider how songs, symbols and other forms of expression help communicate religious ideas and show devotion, reflecting on what commitment means for a follower of Sikhism.

Through discussion, enquiry and reflection, students develop respect and understanding for different beliefs, while making links between religious teachings and positive behaviour. This supports children in thinking thoughtfully about values such as compassion, generosity and responsibility in their own lives.
