Design and Technology Spring

                           Food Technology

In Food Technology, children will be learning about healthy eating and balanced diets as they design and create their own healthy sandwich for a packed lunch. They will begin by exploring different food groups and discussing what makes a meal nutritious. The children will then design their sandwich, thinking carefully about their chosen ingredients, flavours, textures and appearance. They will practise important food preparation skills such as spreading, cutting (with appropriate supervision), and assembling ingredients safely and hygienically. Finally, they will evaluate their finished product, considering what worked well and how they might improve their design next time.

Key Skills:

  • Design purposeful, functional, appealing products for ourselves or others based upon design criteria.

  • Generate, develop, model and communicate ideas through talking, drawing, templates, mock-ups and ICT.

  • Know how to use and be able to select from a range of tools and equipment to perform practical tasks.

  • Be able to explore and evaluate a range of existing products.

  • Evaluate our ideas and products against design criteria.
