Design and Technology Summer

                               Textiles

In our Textiles lessons, children will design and create their own purse, developing their understanding of simple joining fabric techniques. They will begin by exploring different types of fabric and discussing their suitability for a purse, before creating a design that includes shape, decoration and purpose. The children will practise key skills such as measuring, cutting fabric carefully and using basic stitching techniques, including running stitch and simple methods of joining materials securely. Throughout the project, they will focus on improving their accuracy and control while learning how to assemble their pieces neatly and safely. At the end of the unit, they will evaluate their finished purse, reflecting on the strength of their joins and how their design could be improved.
