Christianity and Hinduism

How do some people’s religious beliefs encourage them to care for the world?

Children will learn that some people’s religious beliefs encourage them to care for the world because they see it as a special creation that should be respected and protected. In the Christian Creation story from the Book of Genesis, Christians believe that God created the world and asked humans to look after it as stewards, which inspires many to care for the environment through actions such as recycling, reducing waste and protecting nature.

In Hindu beliefs, creation is often described as a cycle, with the universe being created and recreated by deities such as Brahma, and nature is seen as sacred and closely connected to the divine. While Christianity often emphasises responsibility for God’s creation and Hinduism highlights the interconnectedness and sacredness of all living things, both encourage respect for the Earth. These beliefs can motivate people to respond thoughtfully to environmental issues and make positive choices that help care for our world.
