In Year 2, our curriculum is designed to build strong foundations in key skills while nurturing curiosity and a love of learning. We follow a skills-based approach, ensuring that children have regular opportunities to revisit and consolidate important concepts in reading, writing and mathematics. Through careful repetition and practice, pupils develop confidence, fluency and independence in these core areas.
Alongside this, we provide a broad and inclusive curriculum that values every child’s strengths and interests. Our lessons are designed to be engaging, accessible and enriching, helping pupils to make meaningful connections across different subjects.
In History, we will be exploring the legacy of Isambard Kingdom Brunel, discovering how his engineering achievements shaped the world we live in today. We will also study the story of the Titanic, thinking carefully about what happened, why it happened, and what lessons were learned from this historic event.
In Art, we will be immersing ourselves in the dream world of Aboriginal Art, exploring patterns, colours and storytelling through creative expression. In Design Technology, pupils will be testing wheels and axles as they work to design and build a vehicle fit for an alien visitor!
Throughout the year, children will be encouraged to develop not only their knowledge and skills but also their creativity, resilience and ability to work collaboratively with others.
