In Science, children will be learning about plants and exploring how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants. They will observe closely over time, describing the different stages of growth from seed or bulb to fully grown plant, and identifying key parts such as roots, stems and leaves. Through simple investigations, the children will find out what plants need to grow and stay healthy, discovering the importance of water, light and a suitable temperature. They will compare how plants grow in different conditions and record their observations, helping them to understand how living things depend on their environment to survive and thrive.

In Science, when learning about animals, including humans, children will explore why it is important to have the right amount of exercise and to eat a balanced diet. They will learn that our bodies need different types of food—such as carbohydrates for energy, proteins for growth and repair, fruits and vegetables for vitamins and minerals, and dairy for strong bones—to stay healthy. Children will also understand that regular exercise helps to strengthen muscles and bones, keep our hearts healthy and improve our overall wellbeing. By linking healthy eating and physical activity, they will recognise how making sensible lifestyle choices helps our bodies grow, stay strong and function properly.
