    Living Things and their Habitats

Children will learn about living things and their habitats. They will explore the differences between things that are living, dead and those that have never been alive, identifying the characteristics of living things such as growth, movement and the need for food and water. The children will also investigate a variety of habitats, including micro-habitats such as under logs or in leaf piles, and consider how these environments provide the basic needs of plants and animals. They will learn how living things are suited to their habitats, for example how a duck’s webbed feet help it swim or how a cactus is adapted to survive in dry conditions, developing their understanding of how plants and animals depend on their surroundings to survive.
