During term 1 our phonics focus is on learning nursery rhymes and helping the children to become really familiar with a selection of songs that they will become confident singing independently. Nursery rhymes help children with their language development, vocabulary, and give them awareness of rhythm and rhyme which are important pre-reading skills.

    Rhymes we are practising:

    Wind the bobbin up

    Twinkle, twinkle little star

    1 Potato, 2 Potato...

    I hear thunder

    1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Once I caught a fish alive

    5 Little Speckled Frogs

    5 Little Ducks

    5 Currant Buns

    5 Fat Sausages

    1 Finger, 1 Thumb

    2 Little Dickie Birds
