Our Amazing Maths Work
At E. P. Collier we like to make our maths learning fun, interactive and relevant. We enjoy learning maths through fluency, reasoning and problem solving. Every class has a maths learning journey displayed to help them with the unit of work. These have clear learning outcomes, key vocabulary, models and images and examples of work. Please have a look at the examples below!
What will my child learn?
Please see below for an overview of maths objectives for each year group.
At EP Collier we believe in something called the 'CPA' approach when we teach addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. This means that children are able to work with concrete materials to help them grasp mathematical concepts. They then progress to working with pictorial representations before they are ready to understand maths in the abstract. The calculation policy below will show you how we teach the four operations in school- we hope you will find it useful!
In May, Miss Gillanders led a really well-attended (thank you for your support!) parent workshop, where she explained the CPA approach and how we teach it in school. You can access the powerpoint below.
The next parent workshop will be on
Thursday 22nd November
2.00-3.00 pm at School
It will be about times tables-please see the flyer below for more details.
If you would like to come please book a space by contacting the school office.
A Great website to practice your times tables.
E. P. Collier Maths Day 2016 was magical. The children had a fun time learning about maths through problem solving , investigations and challenges. Andrew Jeffery performed his maths magic to help children learning about patterns in maths.
World Maths Day
World Maths Day on Wednesday 13th October was extremely successful. It was great to see children buzzing with excitement and sharing the motivation for learning. We would like to thank you for the time and effort you displayed, helping your children to make their Maths hat and participating with their learning in school.
Here are our hat winners..........
