Geography

Autumn Term

 

This term in geography, year 5 will be looking at world climate zones, biomes and vegetation belts. They will mainly focus on the physical aspects.

Spring Term

 

This term, we will learn all about mountains using the following skills:

•Use maps, atlases, globes and digital/computer mapping including Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to locate countries and describe features

•Use 8 points of the compass and 6 figure grid references

•Use all symbols and key on OS maps

•Record results and geographical information in a variety of ways, appropriate to audience, including writing at length

•Create detailed, labelled maps of locations identifying patterns such as: land use, climate zones, population densities, height of land

 

Summer Term

This term, we will link learning in science to geography, looking at Earth -Identify the position and significance of latitude, longitude, Equator, Northern Hemisphere, Southern hemisphere, the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, Arctic and Antarctic circle, the Prime/Greenwich meridian and time zones (including day and night)
