As a school we follow the Read Write Inc phonics program. Please see the helpful videos below for an introduction to how the children are taught to read and write.
In nursery we begin introducing the children to the sounds to build familiarity, and also play 'Fred Talk games' to develop their listening skills. This will continue into Reception and Key Stage One.
Although we introduce the concept of phonics early, we maintain a strong focus on sharing books together, and talking and listening to one another as much as possible. Developing these skills will help the children to be fully ready for phonics.
In nursery we have a phonics session each day. During the Summer term we are working through the sounds in set 1. By May half term the children will have been introduced to the single letter sounds and afterwards will be introduced to the 'special friends' sounds and beyond.
